America
About the Song
(Fall, 1994) - Hurricane Andrew hit the coast of Florida and Louisiana in 1992 and devastated everything in its path. This was a few years after the flooding of the Mississippi in the Midwest and the Oakland/San Francisco earthquake topped the news in this country. While watching the damage caused by Andrew on the news and recalling the other events mentioned, I realized that the Firefighters I was watching live on the news had no idea about the status of their families or homes. It really hit me that these men and women placed their lives and welfare of others above themselves and their families.

The sense I got was that these firefighters, although preoccupied with the job at hand, didn't have their families all that far in the back of their minds. "Is my family safe? Is my home still there? What shape is it in or what shape are they in?"

This song was born out of watching Americans helping Americans, people helping people. I believe that each one of us has been given the same amount of faith and courage. It's the circumstances in life, these life and death situations, which bring out the best in each one of us. There are no "heroes" in the world but "The ONE." The rest of us are simply people choosing to respond from the heart and finding out what is there.
America Lyrics
Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.
From the rocky coast of California, in a fishing village in Maine
Wherever duty calls, the answers still the same.
Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.

America, first to lend a hand,
When you're in need we take this stand.

Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.

We stand at a crossroad. We've got a lot to lose.
Look deep within yourself and then we can choose.
Bridge:
The values that made us America the Free.
One nation under God with Liberty.

Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.

Oh beautiful for spacious sky
Land that I love let Freedom fly…fly.

Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.
